Term 4

Ki Ora Readers!

I cant believe its nearly the end of Term 4 already. For me, being a year 6, its my last year here at Wainui. It's been such a busy term. We have done so much, and still have much left to do. I would have to say, one of the things I am looking forward to the most, would have to be the year 6 dinner (Despite the end of school.) The year 6 dinner is quite self explanatory, its where all the year 6's and their parents come to dinner at the school. As boring as it may sound, the way its been explained to us, makes it sound so cool! It has fairy lights dangling from the ceiling and the 1st out of 2 showings of the year 6 performance. I am really looking forward to it.

Now, back on track. Term 4 is full of things to remember, one of my favorites would be Kapa Haka. Now, I know I have already done a post about that but, I was so glad to be in the front row.
Another thing I think I enjoyed would have to be Athletics. I mostly enjoyed long jump. I may not be great at it, but, I really enjoy it, thinking about it, at least I did better than last year.

Something I will never forget is the difficulty of parts of our math challenges -It's not my strong point. I am slightly worried about the difficulty of them next year at intermediate.

I will be leaving with a heavy heart but, gallons of memories. At least it's not over yet! See you later!

WBS Nui Kapa Haka 2019

Kapa Haka

The Turanganui Kapa Haka Festival, the event of the year that we practise so much for, it's crazy. It fell on a Wednesday, on the 20th of November at the Gisborne Showgrounds. I was so nervous, mostly because I was unexpectedly moved to the front row a couple days before. Since that occured that meant I wore a Piupiu like the rest of the front row. A Piupiu is a flax skirt that hangs from a belt, it is made to sway when you perform. I really enjoyed wearing one, it was so cool.

I nearly lost it when I saw all of the wide eyes staring at us in anticipation, it was hallucinating. I tried to look forward and smile, I think I enjoyed it a little too much, as I nearly did a huge smile in the Haka, woops! In our bracket we performed 5 songs and 2 Hakas, it was great. I really enjoyed our performance.

Kapa Haka has become one of my favorite school events this year. For me, as a Year 6 and it being my last year at WBS, its sad that it will be my last. Anyway, that's all for today, bye!

Excited for the Marae Trip!

Hi everyone! On Thursday we will be going to Kaiti Marae, it's going to be very fun. We are going to learn heaps about the Marae and the surrounding land. I can't wait! I have been to a Marae before, but it was a school trip to Whangara Marae, just around the corner of the Gisborne Marine Reserve. We stayed the night there and we learnt heaps and had lots of fun!

The reason I am so excited to stay at the Marae is, we will learn heaps while also having a great time, it's going to be great! At Whangara Marae we learnt heaps about The Whale Rider, and even watched the movie! So I don't know what our trip will hold but, I will tell you heaps when we get back!

Bye everyone!

Marae Trip (Done and dusted)

Hello everyone! On Thursday we traveled to Kaiti Marae, it was a long 2 minute drive from my house. We learnt heaps about the Marae, we even learnt its Pepeha, it goes like this. Ko Titirangi te maunga, Ko Turanganui te awa, Ko Horouta te waka, Ko te Poho-o-Rawiri te marae, Ko ngati oneone te iwi. There were heaps of activities for us to do, here are some of them, Weaving, Handball, String games, Skipping, Traditional Maori games and more. Even the Museum came along to teach us about some Maori games.

We did rotations, so one group would go to a workshop, then a bell would ring and we would move to the next rotation. The rotations lasted half an hour, except for one activity which took up an hour. That was the Hikoi, it was a big walk around Kaiti, my group missed out. I am happy and sad about that.

Our sleeping arrangements were 2 people to a single bed because we did not have enough mattresses (Yikes.) I got no sleep, although I am not sure if it was to do with that. The next day we welcomed Wai syndicate to the Marae, we did a Haka performance, just like how Aunty Buba, Uncle Albie and Aunty Charlotte did to us.

We even learnt a song! Its called Mama Panda, here are the lyrics.
Mama Panda, poki prawa, ete ata, ete po. Ki ora! Mama Panda, poki prawa. Mmmmmm reka! Here is the English translation, My Nannie, makes bread, in the morning, and late at night, thank you, Nanny for your bread. Mmmmm Yummy! So all in all, the Marae trip was amazing. I would love to go again. Bye!

Learning another language!

Hello Reader's! This week began my journey on the road to learning Mandarin! Well, it's also known as Standard Chinese, so... The reason I wanted to learn this language is because, first off, I Love Singapore! And that's pretty amazing for the fact I have never left the airport/hotel. In Singapore one of their Official Languages is Standard Mandarin.

Our class is all learning different languages, but the website we are using is called "Duolingo" It's an amazing website to learn heaps of languages. I have not done too much on it yet, but, I am getting there. I can't wait to learn heaps of that language! It's gonna be Great, no greater than great, THE GREATEST!

That's all I have for today! I will tell you what I have learned when I use it again.

Maths Week

Maths Week!

Hello again.  So, last week was Maths Week and we got introduced to a website called Maths Week NZ.  It's pretty self explanatory. It teaches you heaps about maths. We got to go on it, but not for long. We came back to it this week though.

We went on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" and I failed, so I tried again, and I didnt get the last question correct. Because of that I won $521 of fake money. It was still very fun though. So my question for you this week is, did you do any Maths Week tasks? If you did, what did you do?  Bye!

Cross Country

Cross Country.

Term 3

2019

Hi everyone! Today, Tuesday the 20th of August 2019, we had our Cross Country, in my opinion one of the worst, things, ever. Now, some people love it, and I am not against that. Its just I don't like it, you see I am not a very good runner, I make a really weird sound when I breath and no it's not the sound you think it is. Other people have rolled their eyes at me about it, but trust me it's not what you think it is. I also struggle to breath when I'm  running really hard.

Its partly because I have mild Asthma, but nowhere near as bad as some. In the course we run 2.5 Km, and yeah that's pretty far, but, it's on dunes and sand and there are heaps of up and down parts in the course too, it's pretty hard. But now that it is over and done with, I am pretty glad that I tried! How long is your corse? Or do you even have to run?
See you later, bye!

Set Spot #2

Hello everyone! Now you may remember my blogpost from last week about changing to a set spot, so sit down, relax, and get ready for...
PART TWO!!!!!!!

So now that I have a set spot, things have been very different, no make that very, very different. This term I lost all momentum for getting my work done, and that's why I asked for one. But now that I have one, I am getting so much more of my work done, and even better I am getting it done quicker too! Now that's a big fat BONUS! So I will fill you in on what it's like.

Having a set spot, is not bad at all. So people would dread the fact, but I kinda like it. Its peaceful, no one can interrupt my learning, I can store my stuff inside the desk. Its great! I think I made a good learning choice to move here.

So that's all I have for you today. See you next time!

It's Not What It Looks Like

I got a set spot today, but, it's not what it looks like. I chose to get one. It is already week 3 into the term and I have set in stone, not getting work done, I lost all of my momentum from last term. But the concrete is just unset enough for me to pull it out. So I decided to break the chain.

Now the set spot changes your working style completely, you end up without the free of moving and you have a timetable stating what you have to do during the week, and when. It's not forever though, its just to see how much quicker I get my work done and how much more it suits me. So that's all I have for today. See Ya!

Term 2

Hi Everyone!

This term has been pretty cool, we had to solve mysteries about where our teacher had disappeared to, I was the presenter at assembly but one of my favorite experiences was when the Life Education Truck came to our school, it was awesome. We learnt about how do deal with problems and we learnt about how to know if someone is really our friend.

We went twice. And learnt about heaps. They even had cool lights and stars they can make appear with an Ipad it made a really cool effect. There was even this Brain that was near the roof that could change colours and talk to us, that was very cool.

I think my favorite part about the Life Education Truck was the games we played, they taught us a lot but they were very fun.

Another thing we did was went to The Electric Village that was awesome too because we learnt heaps like the most renewable source of energy and about robots and even got a lollipop and got to go on an electric scooter. So here are some photos.

Where's our teacher?

Over the weekend our teacher went missing. It was crazy, so we looked at lots of clues that had been sent to us, and we used the Air New Zealand website, as well as Google maps, and we figured out where she was at first, and then we had to figure out where she is now.

All the groups had different ideas on where she was, and then we were called outside to record a video to send her to say that we where we thought she was. We think she is in Ashburton in South Island of NZ. Soon we will find out if it was correct or not. I tell you when I know.

Bye Everyone!

Speeding Down The Track

Hi everyone! The other day my class went on a bike ride to some Po, they were the ones you can see in the photo. We used the bike track that goes from Wainui to Kaiti, these Po are about half way down the track, my teacher and her family have put these here because when some of her family went to war and came back alive they were gifted some land that they still own to this day, although they can not live up there because they cant get up there without a lot of walking up a steep hill, it would be too hard to build and to get up to it.
'

The driveway you see in the photo is someone else's not theirs sadly, but as I was saying since they have no other way of getting up there other than walking then can't build anything up there. But in a spiritual way there are still things there.

Anyway, see you next time!

6 sentence story

Hello, thanks for stopping by. In my Level 3 writing group, we have been learning about 6 sentence stories, it was loads of fun. I really enjoyed it, and I hope you do to! Here is my favorite one I did. It's about a guy who in the end decides to go for his dream. This is an example for all of us that our dreams are possible!

Once upon a time, there lived a middle aged man. He lived in the suburbs of a busy city. This man excelled in writing, but no one ever noticed. He was wasting away at a 9 till 5 job at a supermarket, it was vile. He fell into depression because of his dejected life. One day he decided to put himself out of his misery and write a book, he quit his job and became a wealthy author.

The Punishment :(

One day in class Koka Ngaire told all the year 6 boys to meet in MLH three. She let everyone else out for a break. I was so so scared. Then she let it out, (dramatic music plays...) There was a cleaning roster, but for what you ask? THE TOILETS. How do I put this? I was mortified, there are some boys in the group of year six boys peeing on the floor, it's disgusting, so disgusting. I got really annoyed. Especially since two other boys and I had to do it that very day.

Then 3 days later it was over, I was overjoyed and relieved. But we were warned it would come back if needed! Although, I was not one of the boys peeing on the floor I did learn that if you make a mess clean it up, because although I already knew this I probably did not take it so seriously.

First Aid, No More?

First Aid, the whole world revolves around it. Without it havoc would control this society AND WE WOULD ALL DIE! Sorry took that a bit to far. But on Tuesday the 19th of March 2019, we were taken to an all day class for such thing. We had a workbook that we used for our writing down our  learning. It was actually quite fun, I enjoyed it. The instructors name was Anna, She told us about DRSABCD

D: Danger
R: Response
S: Send for help
A: Airway
B: Breathing
C: CPR
D: Defibrillator

Did you know they change the DRSABCD every 5 years, also it is a lot easier to remember when you think of it as Doctors ABCD. We even learnt how to wrap a bandage and put a sling on someone, pretty sick right? I know its not, but it sure is useful. Anyway that's all for now, see ya!

Every Good Deed Takes Hard Work! (2019)

"JACK! GET BACK TO WORK!" I screamed.

Hi, welcome back to my blog!
On Thursday the 7th of February, MLH went down to Hamanatua Stream, it was great! We went down there to do lots of weeding and taking care of the native trees of New Zealand. We were put into groups of 3 or 4, I was in a group of 4, We weeded and took care of 11 trees! There was so much fennel, it smelled DREADFUL! But at the end there was nearly no fennel at all. (The images are at the bottom.) When we arrived I thought, "There are no weeds at all!" Which made me think that the teachers were exaggerating, but when I walked up the path man was I wrong! I worked on lots of different types of plants, who knew there could be so many native plants in one small area. We spent probably spent about 2 and a half if not 3 hours at the stream, and we cleared most of the weeds out.

Next time we go we will need to add some mulch. We worked hard today. Near the end of the time we spent at Hamanatua Stream, My friend Sennen and I where the watch keepers for the remainder of the time, so we picked up everyone's watches and took care of them. Nah! I am just messing with you, the watch keepers make sure everyone is working, and we got to say to people "GET BACK TO WORK!" In a way doing this job was kinda funny. I really loved going. So that's the end of my blog post, remember to have a look at the photo, Bye have a great day!

I am the person in holding the shovel!
