Term 4

Ki Ora Readers!

I cant believe its nearly the end of Term 4 already. For me, being a year 6, its my last year here at Wainui. It's been such a busy term. We have done so much, and still have much left to do. I would have to say, one of the things I am looking forward to the most, would have to be the year 6 dinner (Despite the end of school.) The year 6 dinner is quite self explanatory, its where all the year 6's and their parents come to dinner at the school. As boring as it may sound, the way its been explained to us, makes it sound so cool! It has fairy lights dangling from the ceiling and the 1st out of 2 showings of the year 6 performance. I am really looking forward to it.

Now, back on track. Term 4 is full of things to remember, one of my favorites would be Kapa Haka. Now, I know I have already done a post about that but, I was so glad to be in the front row.
Another thing I think I enjoyed would have to be Athletics. I mostly enjoyed long jump. I may not be great at it, but, I really enjoy it, thinking about it, at least I did better than last year.

Something I will never forget is the difficulty of parts of our math challenges -It's not my strong point. I am slightly worried about the difficulty of them next year at intermediate.

I will be leaving with a heavy heart but, gallons of memories. At least it's not over yet! See you later!

WBS Nui Kapa Haka 2019

Kapa Haka

The Turanganui Kapa Haka Festival, the event of the year that we practise so much for, it's crazy. It fell on a Wednesday, on the 20th of November at the Gisborne Showgrounds. I was so nervous, mostly because I was unexpectedly moved to the front row a couple days before. Since that occured that meant I wore a Piupiu like the rest of the front row. A Piupiu is a flax skirt that hangs from a belt, it is made to sway when you perform. I really enjoyed wearing one, it was so cool.

I nearly lost it when I saw all of the wide eyes staring at us in anticipation, it was hallucinating. I tried to look forward and smile, I think I enjoyed it a little too much, as I nearly did a huge smile in the Haka, woops! In our bracket we performed 5 songs and 2 Hakas, it was great. I really enjoyed our performance.

Kapa Haka has become one of my favorite school events this year. For me, as a Year 6 and it being my last year at WBS, its sad that it will be my last. Anyway, that's all for today, bye!

Excited for the Marae Trip!

Hi everyone! On Thursday we will be going to Kaiti Marae, it's going to be very fun. We are going to learn heaps about the Marae and the surrounding land. I can't wait! I have been to a Marae before, but it was a school trip to Whangara Marae, just around the corner of the Gisborne Marine Reserve. We stayed the night there and we learnt heaps and had lots of fun!

The reason I am so excited to stay at the Marae is, we will learn heaps while also having a great time, it's going to be great! At Whangara Marae we learnt heaps about The Whale Rider, and even watched the movie! So I don't know what our trip will hold but, I will tell you heaps when we get back!

Bye everyone!

Marae Trip (Done and dusted)

Hello everyone! On Thursday we traveled to Kaiti Marae, it was a long 2 minute drive from my house. We learnt heaps about the Marae, we even learnt its Pepeha, it goes like this. Ko Titirangi te maunga, Ko Turanganui te awa, Ko Horouta te waka, Ko te Poho-o-Rawiri te marae, Ko ngati oneone te iwi. There were heaps of activities for us to do, here are some of them, Weaving, Handball, String games, Skipping, Traditional Maori games and more. Even the Museum came along to teach us about some Maori games.

We did rotations, so one group would go to a workshop, then a bell would ring and we would move to the next rotation. The rotations lasted half an hour, except for one activity which took up an hour. That was the Hikoi, it was a big walk around Kaiti, my group missed out. I am happy and sad about that.

Our sleeping arrangements were 2 people to a single bed because we did not have enough mattresses (Yikes.) I got no sleep, although I am not sure if it was to do with that. The next day we welcomed Wai syndicate to the Marae, we did a Haka performance, just like how Aunty Buba, Uncle Albie and Aunty Charlotte did to us.

We even learnt a song! Its called Mama Panda, here are the lyrics.
Mama Panda, poki prawa, ete ata, ete po. Ki ora! Mama Panda, poki prawa. Mmmmmm reka! Here is the English translation, My Nannie, makes bread, in the morning, and late at night, thank you, Nanny for your bread. Mmmmm Yummy! So all in all, the Marae trip was amazing. I would love to go again. Bye!

Learning another language!

Hello Reader's! This week began my journey on the road to learning Mandarin! Well, it's also known as Standard Chinese, so... The reason I wanted to learn this language is because, first off, I Love Singapore! And that's pretty amazing for the fact I have never left the airport/hotel. In Singapore one of their Official Languages is Standard Mandarin.

Our class is all learning different languages, but the website we are using is called "Duolingo" It's an amazing website to learn heaps of languages. I have not done too much on it yet, but, I am getting there. I can't wait to learn heaps of that language! It's gonna be Great, no greater than great, THE GREATEST!

That's all I have for today! I will tell you what I have learned when I use it again.

Maths Week

Maths Week!

Hello again.  So, last week was Maths Week and we got introduced to a website called Maths Week NZ.  It's pretty self explanatory. It teaches you heaps about maths. We got to go on it, but not for long. We came back to it this week though.

We went on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" and I failed, so I tried again, and I didnt get the last question correct. Because of that I won $521 of fake money. It was still very fun though. So my question for you this week is, did you do any Maths Week tasks? If you did, what did you do?  Bye!
